Dear Rostered Colleagues in the Northeastern Ohio Synod:

This letter is to inform you about and invite you to the 2014 Professional Leaders’ Retreat, which is scheduled for January 21-23rd at The Lodge at Sawmill Creek Resort.  We look forward to a couple of days of rest, relaxation and refreshment with rostered friends across not only our synod, but Northwestern Ohio as well.  Our keynote presenter is the Rev. Dr. Anna Madsen, a “freelance theologian” and author online at OMG: Center for Theological Conversation.

The format will be different from past years.  The programming begins Tuesday afternoon with a Eucharist Service and a presentation from our presenter, Dr. Madsen.  After dinner, we will meet with the Bible Study Leader, the Rev. Dr. Wally Taylor, Professor of New Testament Studies at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio and then Interim Bishop Marcus Miller and Bishop Marcus Lohrmann will meet with their own rostered leaders.  Wednesday will offer more Bible study, another presentation from Dr. Madsen, worship and a large block of time for personal retreat.  Thursday will conclude with a session with Dr. Madsen and the Eucharist.  Please see the enclosed schedule for specific times.

We will follow the process from former years that worked so well: payment must accompany all registrations and the deadline of December 15th for the reduced price will be strictly maintained.  Refunds will be considered on a case by case basis.  On-line registrations at the synod website are not available.  People who come only for the day must register as wellNo exceptions. Children may stay in the lodge for free and if they are under 5 the meals are free as well; 6-11 yrs. are $90.00.  Child care will be available if registered by December 15th.  As always, spouses are especially encouraged to come.

We’d also remind our rostered leaders that the intent of this gathering is “to retreat” and do what is helpful for you.  In terms of the whole schedule, please pick and choose what works for you!  Bring your ELW and if you are an “outdoors person”, bring boots or cross-country skis and a warm coat to take a walk in the snow.  Sawmill Creek Resort is beautiful in the winter!  Check it out: www.sawmillcreekresort.com.

Sincerely,
